    Talking Peel Longtail

Nocked off early on monday and headed to peel to chase some tuna. Got to the boat ramp around 3pm headed to south side of peel were the birds were working. Saw some massive tuna 20kg plus fish and got some cast right in front of them but no luck so changed to smaller hook and smaller plastic and then next cast as the plastic was sinking to the bottom (due to the tuna not being overly aggresive i was fishing deep) my line slowly pulled away from me and then i sank the hooks in and in that instance the fish took off at great speed and i knew straight away it was a longtail . After 3 blistering runs and alot of chearing and about 20mins i had the 13kg longtail on board and quickly blead the fish and put him on ice with my mouth watering at the prospect of tuna for tea. We spent the next 30mins tring to get my mate hooked up also but had no luck due to the fading light.

Top stuff seth. I have only recently realised that they will eat a plastic down deep(makes sense really). Heard of a 27kg model picked up in that area on the weekend so i dont doubt you at all about the 20 kg plus. Ben

Top effort, It seems the word is out about the longtails in the southern bay, where they there in any numbers on Monday?. I was out there this morning and there were a few boats chasing the birds and schools. Unfortunately we didn't see any longtails only little (and i do mean little) mack tuna kept us entertained for a while. They don't seem to be there in any great numbers so i will have to wait another week to try and get my first long tail for the year .

    Cheers Chris
