I first saw it when I went fishing 2 weeks ago today at Burrum Heads with my friend Noel . Noel said he had one when he lived at Tweed Heads.
This device is awesome!
You can pump for yabbies even if the yabbie bank is completely covered in water. I can tell you now it much easier pumping sand covered in water rather than hard compacted sand. I tried pumping yabbies in about 1 foot of water. Its so much less tiring & labour intensive.
All you need to make one is a basket, a pool noodle, some cable ties & a piece of rope. The piece of rope is to tie the basket to your leg so it doesn't float away from you.
Another thing you need is a cut out juice bottle to tie around your waist. This is essential as you cannot use a bucket when pumping yabbies standing in water.
You can pump 6 or more times, aim for the basket and then just give the basket a shake to wash out the sand. The yabbies are then left for you to pick out and place in the cut out bottle tied around your waist.
I have incuded pictures of Noel's basket & the ones I have made. The smaller one is a chip fryer basket.
I don't know if anyone from the forum has seen or used one of these before.
I just thought I would be great for everyone to know about this.
With two people pumping yabbies you can get about 1 kilo in 3/4 hour.

been using those for years, as long as I can remember. You can buy the seive from BCF and the likes, and like you said zip tie a pool noodle or tyre tube around it.
