    Loading Bluechart Maps

    G'day Everyone,

I just purchased a Bluechart data card set of maps mackay to twofold bay for my Garmin 178c (172c combo) and am wondering if I need to keep this data card in the machine to use it or if i overwrite the basemap with it and remove the data card and keep it safe?

I would think you simply load the maps to the machine and keep the data card at home.

I don't know the machine, my Lowrance the maps are loaded on the data card and left in the machine, same as the Garmin in my Car, same as tom tom on my bike, unless the machine has its own hard drive I would think the map card wold stay slotted in the machine

Thanks Brew, I sorta thought that would be the case to risk damaging the data card in a hostile environment so we have to replace it.

    tunaticer,

The maps overlay on the base map, so you need to leave the data card in. Iif you use the blue chart software you can download updates and transfer them to your unit. You need to get a serial cable made up to do it with a 12 volt power supply.
