    hello guys
headed up the range on friday with a mate of mine (took a day off work) . we got on the water at about 530am and headed to a point near the ramp at the northern end of the dam. we fished it for about 30min and raised two big fish but i think we were retrieving the lures too fast because the fish followed but no strikes. we moved from there up into school point and worked a bank hard for about two hours. there was alot of rats boofing but they were right in the weeds and even the weedless SP's were getting bogged so we moved on. we starting thinking hard about everything everyone has told us and what we have read and decided that our best shot was to find a bank where the weed wasn't so thick and the sun and the little wind we had were both pushing in onto the bank. this spot happened to be about half way in the dam near the island. and we worked it hard. there was little barra and archer fish coming out to chase our lures and we had some hits but the fish were too small compared to the lures we had on. as we moved down the bank we came to a nice point. the sun was well into the sky now and i thought that maybe the fish might be nearer to the surface, so i tied on a popper and threw it out. i worked it real slow, two twitches then stopped for a while. on about my tenth it happened. i watched the fish come up under the lure and smash it. after a good ten minute fight i had him in the boat. 120cm my new pb and my first tinaroo metery finially. we took pics the swam him back to health. we fished that area for about another hour the headed to the barron. i won't say where i was fishing in there because i saw someone fishing that spot a few weeks ago and i don't give away other peoples spots. anyway we were there for a couple of hours. we had some boils and i had hooked up twice on a gold bomber but lost it both times. i had just pulled my lure in and was about to thow it back out when my mate hooked up. after about a ten minute fight he had his fish in the boat a 110cm. it was his pb and his first fish over a meter so he was thrilled. we stayed there for another half hour then moved back to our first spot. we raised a nice fish right near the boat but didn't get anymore and it was dark so we called it a day. couldn't have have a better day in the end both of us caught a fish and the weather was beautiful.

    cheers shayne.

    Shayne,

Yeehah!!!!!! Congrats mate on the fish. They are healthy looking fish and you can't half tell that you guys were happy. Good to finally hear a report coming in with the big girls. I thought Friday would have been a cracker up there. Shame I was working but you had the right idea.

The surface strike would have been a jaw dropper for you no doubt????

What did you catch the 110cm on? Always interesting to know

    Congrats and terrific effort

    Matt

    thanks guys
matt we got the second fish on a halco laser a red and black lure wouldn't have been my choice of lure but it worked. i also got a hit in the same spot on a bomber.
The fish boofing my popper was awsome. i watched all of it happen with my jaw on the deck. it had the whole popper sideways in it's mouth unreal.
i think the other key to our sucess was the electric motor i am looking to buy one now won't be going back up there without one.
    cheers shayne.

Great fish mate, Barra on poppers certainly get the knees trembling. I've caught a lot of fish on poppers but Barra have got the best take around, and when it's well over a metre, geezus!
