So um......... does it say on the bottle not to use this stuff while off shore in your ahhhhh.......... lets say it would be like cryptonite to a polly boat.

How about RID - the roll-on stuff is great for mossies etc also but it melts rubber.

Don't ask me why it was there - I once saw it eat through a large engels vehicle camping fridge. Inner plastic about 8-10mm thick no match for it. The screw top lid is not to be trusted! (but roll it on your skin for great results).

Someone else can volunteer to try the spray-on effects.

    good luck

Great I use Rid, maybe not on me kids anymore. But if you have an open sore the Rid burns like hell then it seems to stop and is quite soothing.

I had some RID drip onto an aladdin vacuum flask once. They have a very hard baked on crackle finish.

Yep, it bubbled off in an afternoon.

    On a side note:

I have been working on cars and had mossies buzzing around, so wiped some petrol on my arms to keep the little buggers away. It didn't work - they ignored the petrol on my skin and still came and had a feed.

No wonder we need stuff like RID, BUSHMANS & AGENT ORANGE.

It's the deet that burns synthetics. All the repellents use deet, it's just that bushmans uses more, so to an extent, they're all capable of being corrosive.

Just imagine being offshore in a poly for an overnighter and as you bed down, you stand on a tube of bushmans without realising.............

This is the damage that Bushmans can do to PVC.
This was brand new wet weather gear ( 2 days & totally ruined) It turned the outer PVC layer into tissue paper ( or as weak as)

So I guess you wouldn't use it around an inflatable boat

Yeah that bushmans is bad stuff, a mate of mine sprayed it on himself when we were fishn a while back and less than 10 minutes later the face of his watch was ruined, couldnt even read the display. Think ill just stick to the cheaper stuff for now, unless there is a painting job coming up

Thousands of studies have been done on DEET. 1st developed for use in world war 2.

DEET is 100% safe to use on your skin provided you dont coat it on everyday for months on end.

The Army uses Bushman as its recognized as the best repellant on the market.

Any of you every tried to fish a far north QLD estury in summer without busham on? No other repellent works as well. Yeah it melts plastic and you have to be careful. Use the gel and not the spray as you dont get over spray. But its totally safe for short term use(2-3weeks)

But if your fishing where the sandflies are really bad you'll be glad you bought it. Aerogard, rid etc just dont cut the mustard...

normally suncream does the same if do not wash it off plastics.

Equal parts baby oil and detol plus 5ml bottle of Citrinala(stuff used in oil lamps for mozzies) from the chemist mixed up in a hand spray bottle works for me with sandies and mozzies as repellant

Yeah sort of just don't use it (as in high concentration preparations) in any committed sense or any if possible on your children it's not that safe!!!

    cheers fnq

Great stuff but it is an acumulative poison. I have used high DEET repellants from as far back as the early 70's when you could buy the Army stuff called Kokoda. It was in a little glass bottle with a small cork in it. It was higher in DEET than Bushmans and would melt anything synthetic

It should not be used on children

It really makes me wonder what the hell we are doing to ourselves with products that are capable of being a paint stripper. Man keeps inventing wonderful new products to repel, kill bugs etc and we find ourselves wondering why the cancer rate in humans accelerates 10 fold every couple of years? Hmmmm.
