John. if you want to mount it on the transom go the 600 if you going a in hull.. go the 1kw.. unless they have come out with a new 1kw for the transom mount you wount get the performance out of the current transom 1kw at speed.

    I got the 1kw M260 for my 585

As someone mentioned earlier, pixels counts dont mean jack. I have a koden CVS-832 which only has 320x240 from memory and i see things just as well if not better than most sounders with a higher pixel count. I'd be going the colour Furuno, not the monochrome.

I have a Furuno 620 and am not sure it's setup or configured correctly. Anyone know where/who in Brisbane are the Furuno experts to help with this?

    Re: Advice Furuno 620

I've got a 620 and am more than happy with the performance. Someone mentioned the 1 kw transducer but I'm not sure that the 620 is compatible with it. Other than screen size, I thought the transducer options was one of the main differences between the 620 and the 585. If you look at the currency exchange site someone mentioned, a word of caution. I use Paypal for overseas transactions and they will give you a gobbledegook story of how the conversion rate is worked. I always seem to pay more than the ec site says. Good fishing.

I am no expert on sounders but the 620 is what i opted to fit and I could not be happier. I opted for a thru hull transducer. Easy to use and nice screen. All the people I spoke to stated that for the money is was the best unit to get. Trymax marine at Capalaba Know there stuff and sell Different Brands. I could not afford 585 but would of been nice.

    John.

the 600w transducer will be effective to around the 200m mark , after that a bit iffy, the 1KW t-hull transducer a tad more expensive but with the 585 screen there is no better fishfinder available the public.

as for screen size the 585 is colossal and the resolution is alot better than the 620 as well.

Thanks Guys for your input I've decided to go for the 585 with the 1kw through hull transducer on the Hydrofield. (Look out fish )

    Re: Advice Furuno 620

the furuno 620 is one of the best sounders you can buy for that kind of money...

with this sounder forget all about the pixel count as it gives such a good image of what is actually under the boat you almost forget about the clarity of the unit.

once you set it up correctlly you will be amazed on how good it actually is.
