    Missing Skeg

Had a great easter up until this arvo when I managed to find some rocks bending my prop and snaping about an inch of my skeg and bending the remaining part of it. It is on a 40hp merc has anyone done this, I know the cost of the prop but am fearful about the skeg as it looks like the bottom 1/4 of the leg will have to be replaced. thanks in advance for all replys I know it may not be good good news

I also have a little merc with the bottom of the skeg broken off (and another motor with a bent skeg.)
No drama's because the skeg is mainly there to stop any damage to the prop anyway.
Just replace the prop and watch out for rocks in the future.

If you are really concerned get a new bit welded on the bottom

I believe on some motors you can get replacement skegs and just weld them on. They are only there to protect the prop.

    Re: Missing Skeg

I saw recently online somewhere a stainless steel skeg guard that bolts to the skeg. One of these could also replace a missing skeg in your case i would presume.

This is just one of many out there on the market but as suggested dropping into a alloy welding shop and getting a piece of alloy welded on may be the cheapest option.
