    surf fishing help.

    guys im looking for marks for beach/surf fishing around brisbane.had a look at nudgee seems to be more suited to estuary fishing with light gear.would i be able to use my beach gear there?im talking 14ft and 16ft rods.dont think i will get much of a fight off a bream with them! .any help would be great.is it worth having a go at nudgee with them?any bigger species there?

    for surf fishing, you'll have to go to either the Sunny or Gold Coasts, or across to Moreton or Straddie islands.

    Regardless you'll most likely encounter the same species in those locations. Bream, tailor, whiting, dart, flathead and maybe a jew if you're lucky. Look for gutters, ideally with some structure in them like some coffee rock. Winter is probably most productive on the beach, so you'll need some waders. Or maybe not if you're from the UK........

    Straddie, Moreton, the GC and the sunny coast are all good surf fishing spots.

    The GC beaches fish well in the winter for tailor.

    Do a search on surf fishing, as there are heaps of threads.

    cheers

    Mate where you from in England? Anyway try Southport on the Gold Coast for Bream, Flathead and Trevally. On the Sunshine Coast all the beaches really produce fish as Sanbank mentioned look for the gutters with coffee rock - there are some at Peregian Beach.

    Cheers Tom and feel free to PM me as I know where great surf spots are

    There are also the Bribie Island beaches, probably the closest trip actually.

    There are some good beaches on the NSW far north coast as well. But be aware you need a fishing license (anywhere) in NSW. Not expensive but could be if you get caught without one.

    Most of the good surf beaches also tend to have good adjacent holes a little further up the beach. Close to estuary entrances is also a good place to try.

    Try sites like Brownies Coastwatch and Coastal Watch that have surf reports and links, and best of all surf cams to be able to see the surf conditions;

    http://www.coastwatch.com.au/

    http://www.coastalwatch.com/camera/cameraOverview.aspx

    If you pick up a copy of Hooked in Paradise, it has aerial photos of all the beaches with potential spots marked, target species etc. Refer to the website link for samples of what it looks like;

    http://www.hookedinparadise.com.au/

    And of course don't forget the local knowledge of the local bait and tackle stores. Get your bait there and I am sure they will point you in the right direction.

    Cheers
