I'm not sure whether a 'lecture' on 'get over it' is necessary for such a thread. I think you'll be surprised to find that many here are just as 'organised' as yourself.

or are you two the only ones who are the 'experts' at holiday fishing?

these threads are important because many new and 'once a year' boaties read this site but don't contribute so you never know who is paying attention. hopefully by discussing etiquette others can learn what pisses others off and try to avoid such ignorant behaviour.

I see the glass half full - no offence Scott, but I'd expect such a post from you. I'm sure you would whinge long and hard if you had the traffic to contend with down here up your way.

    egocentric? I disagree.

    cheers for your observations...
No offence taken Mik01...up here in the northern regional centres we get pretty used to listening to the winging of the SE qlder's who live in the city area's and utilize much of the the states funding on seemingly frivolous spending spree's.
And then have the audacity to complain that they are hard done by because of the city's inevitable congestion that ultimately gives them the money and infrastructure that ensures the lucrative lifestyle that accompany's this.
Up here we just deal with things as they happen and go fishing when the weather allows.

    Gives me a laugh anyway.
The best free entertainment is at the boat ramp between 1 and 3pm.

    Re: Easter madness

I am amazed that everyone on here is a wizard at launching and retrieving and can appear to do it in no time flat...I make stuff ups often and I make no apology for it..simple answer is..I get my boat in and out of the water in the time it takes me to do it..if I take longer than someone else that is their problem and if you cannot deal with that..not my problem.
As for the once a year boater..they must be out most weekends..try steering a 30' boat through some of the channels down the Pin when dopes in small tinnies don't even have the brains to have a look what is behind them in a lot of instances.
I go boating to relax..if some want to stress out over the time taken at a ramp I suggest you give up boating or just light up a smoke and wait..seems typical of the lifestyle these days...rush rush rush.

I often don't agree with you Greg...but these are indeed words of wisdom.

    Hey Disorderly and Dave,
I didn't paste this thread to have a whinge....I know how bad it gets. It was mainly to highlight a couple of incidents that I saw, and to highlight how we can all get on and be safer.
Sorry if it sounded like I was whinging mate. However, one aspect to it all is that with our increasing limits and green zones etc.....who do you think is pushing for tighter restrictions.....it's not us fishers, its not just the greenies and the pollies.
Its also these wanna be boaties that do come down only once or twice a year. Unfortunately I think there might be more of them than us and its there vote that gets counted.

I guess there are always going to be some levels of arrogance, ignorance, and bad habits in the minority group of boaties however when you have public holidays and long weekends those minority groups merge together to form a bit of kaos at the ramps. It doesn't take much to make life easier for those around you and it is called common sense. Some seem to lack it. I just launched from Manly this morning and there were a couple of bozo's trying to launch there boat without a lot of success. They pushed, grunted and groaned but the boat was not budging from the trailer. In the meantime I have readied my boat and proceeded to position myself to back down the ramp but guess what? I couldn't see a flaming thing because the guys still trying to figure out why the boat was stuck on the trailer had their headlights on. But ahhhhh, the penny finally dropped and they realized that the safety strap was still securing the boat to the trailer. DOH!!!!!! Once they undid the safety strap away she goes....smack bang crunch onto the skeg and transom. Would help if the trailer was in the water boys . I can only hope that these people make those sorts of errors once only and learn from them. Once their car was up the ramp I could see and reversed down and launched in no time. I am not having a go at anyone, just thought I would share my own experience. It was around 4:30am so the ramp was not that busy however these sorts of antics at the ramps can make one's blood boil a little especially when there are more boats lined up behind you to launch or retrieve. So in closing I have just one thing to ask of all my fellow boaties to show some consideration, Please turn off your car headlights when down the bottom of the ramps when launching so that others can see where they are going!

I heard the cops were operating after dark at Noosa on Saturday night.

They would stealth up to anchored boats in the dark, then hit the lights & presumably do a rbt.

    What a heart starter!!!!

Traffic in SE Qld???? What traffic??

You boys need to try Melbourne ramps (I suppose its probably even worse again in the Sydney are)

One of our popular ramps down here which has approx 5 good ramps and parking for at least a coule hundred vehicles with trailers can see on any good weekend a 2 hour wait to launch and a 2hr wait to retrieve.....

I spoke with a customer who was out early one Sat morn (3am) a couple of months ago and he was about 20th in the queue to launch....... at bloody 3am!!

And in the interest of keeping with the topic we have more than our fair share of nuff nuffs too...

In fact a few on here will recall what seemed for a while to be regular reports of stupid behaviour at the Altona ramp in Melbourne's West. I'm not from that side of town but it would seem worth a visit to marvel at how many complete dickheads live over that way

    Cheers

Gee I had it tough down at Wooli. The locals were complaining about how crowded it was when there was 2 people waiting to launch. I had to wait at least 3-5 minutes to get my boat in and when I got back there was 1 guy getting his boat out and I had to wait another 60 seconds. Talk about crowded.

    Re: Easter madness

First I hope everyone had a good happy safe Easter,
Yeah It was mayhem , on the water , put the Brothers boat in once and took his kids for a tube sesion at taylors beach on thursday was too blowey to go out to the reef,, but after that it turned nuts on good fri day and sat and sun got more crowded out there and sitting on the patio watching the ski boats and jet ski's going at top noise , with the tinnies trying to go up the creek , I made the comment that there was all the right ingrediants to have an accident , the way the jet ski's were cutting in front of the ski boats and each other was quite scarey , and they would be moving , passing the ski boats lke they were standing still , kids on the back , there were at least four jet ski's and seven boats skiing or tubing and a few tinnies.
Got home yesterday and get a phone call from the folks , apprently two of the jet ski's collided and two women had to be taken to hospital , now While I hope they are alright , it was bound to happen the way the mob was fighting for the water .
Taylors beach is a river inlet and the place is silting up, the channel is getting smaller and more sand bars seem to be appearing all the time but eight or nine people hit the sandbar where I was out there throwing plastics at the quiet end off the sand, I had my two nephews and we were laughing in the end at the people getting on the bar and we stopped three at least waving them down before the hit it, but full noise throught the sand bar , onto the bar , and some , who had tiniies in their hand, kids and crab pots and a few mates , I have seen going up and down this creek for the same Fourty years I have.
When I was a kid they still skied there and I had a tinny with a seven hp merc when I was eight , well was the folks but I used it all the time to go fishing up the creek , well so did all the mates took thier folks tinnies, be three or four if Kenny took the old seagull powered plywood boat he had. now my nephew is thirteen and you couldn't let him do that with all the fools on the water which is shame cause they love fishing just like the bro and I did when we were young, and the fishing is not as good as it was back then but they are still keen .

    Re: Easter madness

Lucinda in NQ would have to have been the easiest Easter at the Ramps I have seen in years, all three days, I think the most we had to wait for a spot to launch was about 5 minutes and retrieving was about 10 mins. It sure does make a difference when those who look after the ramps, install some pontoons so that Boaters can launch, tie up to a pontoon and then free the ramp for another boat to launch and also when everyone displays a little tollerance toward each other. Even saw boaties holding each others boats when they went to get their trailers.

The carpark was full for all three days by the way, weather for boating was crap but when you get the chance to be away from home and in a place like Hinchinbrook, you take it when you can get it. For the record my 14 year old son outfished me all weekend..
