    furuno/hooker 5m

having trouble with old mans furuno 7000 plotter/sounder, the sounder losses depth reading once you get up on the plane and even just before. It reads well just idling along, boat is a 5m hooker with transom mount transducer, the transducer looks pretty straight with hull line and is at the full adjustment down. any advice etc apprieciated cheers Yamp

I have always had trouble with my transducer. eventually put on a sliding bracket.
did help but I still loose bottom, some times at 15 knts yet other times 25knts.
I put it down to hull.
My advice, spend the $$ on a thru hull transducer. That what will come with my next sounder.

show us a photo of the transducer side on. Might be a setup issue.

Also show us a photo looking at the ducer from behind and just under, and showing the hull shape behind it.

Need to see what is causing turbulent water around it, or if the ducer angle is wrong.

I had to go to great lengths to get mine set up as well as it could be given the shape and design of my boats hull.

    Cheers

Many of the newe transom mount transducers have to be below the hull where the older style were in line with the bottom

i think the problem you guys have is that your transducer isn't down in the water far enough.. i had this problem with a new humminbird sounder, but once i lowered it below the bottom of the hull it read absolutely perfectly.

    Hello Local Guy,
you may be right as I lowered the tranducer to below what was stated in specs it gave a more consistant reading at speeds but i kept losing the speed function.
but who cares if you have a taco & GPS.
I have been tempted to bury the bloody thing deep somehow.

The back of the transducer must be lower than the front so it gets a clean run in the water. If its level as in front to back it definatly wont work as it will get turbulance. About 3mm roughly

I agree with most here. You have to be getting clean water to the transducer with no turbulents and the ducer should be a little lower at the traileng edge than the leading edge (3mm)
