Moreton Island Flats fishing....? any good

hey guys,

A mate and I are looking at a weekend away flyfishing and wondered how the flats around tangalooma or anywhere on moreton Island perform.
Is it worth a trip or would we be a lot better off hitting fraser?

any tips appreciated,

If it wasn't a green zone it would be as good as you could get down at Kooringal area on Moreton Island. These days I would be looking at western rocks and yellowpatch areas with the fly gear. South of Tangalooma and Shark Spit there are some flats that hold some nice fish. There is also a very large tractor tyre in about 10 to 12 feet of water that nearly always holds some decent predators too.

I tried Ben Ewa with soft plastics at Xmas and I was amazed that there were so many baitfish around but not much chasing them. I agree with tunticer, I think Yellowpatch would be a great spot to try. Good luck.

Ratman pulled a couple of Cobes off a Manta Ray on the flats at Yellow Patch. I have not heard of big schools of Golden Trevs etc but there are quite often good Flathead up on the flats along most of the island

That really saddens me. I've only been there once, but have been wanting to go back for some time. I saw the potential there for good fishing even as a 13 year old. Shouldn't Moreton Island's national park status protect it from commercial harvesting?????
