The question is when to go for what fish...

    Hi Fellow fish-hunters,
I moved to Oz a while back and since not grown up here, never got a good grasp on what seasons are best for which catch... or the other way around...

If some one could share some info with me, from there own experience or maybe there is a website I missed, I would be greatful.

Looking for any fish, as well as squid, crabs you name it...

Also if some one has some good spots to share, even better

All the best and good luck out there

there are a many rules of thumbs out there for each species of fish. these rules of thumbs are also known to be broken.
here are some that are general knowledge.

diver whiting(winter whiting) are in larger number in you guessed it winter.
bream are another fish that seem to fish better in winter.
an old one for mud crabs is any month with a R in it.
some pelagic like the warmer months. (but not this year)

Where abouts are you located exswede? I am in SEQ so I will give some hints for the Moreton Bay area.

On the mainland squid are lots more common in winter and esp during the westerly winds. On the inside of Moreton Island however you can get decent squid year round.
Tailor have 2 runs a year with winter thru to mid september being the biggest run with generally smaller fish heading north past Moreton Bay. November to January has the return run south with lots less in numbers but much better in size.

I reckon the r thing in the months for crabs should be pushed back a month or two. Mud crab wise anyhow. November to June.

Bream on full moons near estuary mouths in winter. Flathead in september. Summer or sand whiting on sand banks in summer. Winter or diver whiting in the bays in winter. Tailor depends on where you're fishing, but generally a winter surf catch.

This is for SEQ in my experience anyhow

    Need to know

    where you are based?
do you fish land-based or from a boat?
freshwater or saltwater - or both?
casual fisho or totally obsessed (like many on this site, myself included)
any particular species or techniques favoured (bread & butter species from the estuaries or big pelagics off the rocks etc)

    Cheers Freeeedom

    Hey Guys,
Thanks for answers so far, all very welcome, and as I realised as I had pushed the submit button and shutdown, that I should stated where I am based... opss

So to sum it up and answer Freedom's questions...
    1. In and around Brisbane, so mostly here, but can travel...
    2. Currently land-based...
    3. Saltwater would be my preferred solution
    4. Casual or obsessed... it varies periodically... from once 6 month to every day of the week if something good has been tickling my tackle :-)
    5. Any legal technique, rod fishing with baited hooks or lures. Mostly been into the smaller stuff in estuaries, but would love to tackle things off of the rocks to and as stated crabs as well...

Keep suggestion coming all very appreciated, PM's are perfectly ok as well

    Thanks again, Exswede
