got a call from dave hodge (barefoot fisherman) to come down and fish some of his home turf round jacobs well on friday just gone and try to find some jewies .
With not a huge run in the tide and semi overcast conditions we were in with a shot , we started with plastics for the last of the runout without a touch and between us we must have tried a dozen different shapes, sizes, colours and brands(yes even nuc chook) but to no avail .
We soon gathered a few livies consisting of herring , mullet and a few prawns and tried a few drift runs and we had immediate success with a big pair of lizards (hodgie 69cm , swano 68cm) also had a few grab and runs typical of jew but no hooksets.
with the change of the tide we threw out the pick above a likley looking submerged snag that had great shows of bait above it and i got out the heavy gear a brand new penn 320ld spooled with 15kg mono and 40lb leader whacked on a good size herring and dropped it behind the boat and drifted it towards the snag , instantly the ratchet started clicking slowly then with a few meters of line given towards the snag it was time to flick the lever and set the pin, whack and the jewie didn't like it but it soon found the net waiting for it beside the poly.
what followed for the next hour was nothing short of a hot bite with 9 jew being boated a nice estuary cod and some thumping bream as well as bust offs brickings and pulled hooks .
back at the ramp by 2.30pm with smiles from ear to ear we had a chat to a few others that had mixed reports but one chap nailed a cricket score of whitng , the wind never dropped below 15kts and at times must have been 25 but i think if you want fish you have to be prepared to get a bit wet and bear it . was a top sesh and can't wait to fish with hodgie down there again reel soon .

Great session if you ask me. Good fish and a good mix and an even better spot. I bet you will bee back to try there again. Well done boys.
Under the new legal lengths i understand that a Jewfish or Mulloway will be 75cm so you will be able to keep that fish by 1cm if you wish. Hoping that Alan Southerland in the new Moreton Council will win mayor position cause he is supporting anti-bay closures. Your rights at work worth voting & joining a union for.
"We gave Howard the Arse now we have to fix Rudd"
"Now we have to sort Gillard" F@?k me RUDD again
Abbott and Newman what a great next few years "NOT"
75cm is the way it should be for jewfish. They arent sexually mature till around the 60cm mark and the 45cm regulations were made to favour commercial fisherman.
That sounds like a pretty hot session. I have a vague an idea of where you were. Did you just pick the spot by sounding around or did Dave know it
