Wouldn't cast net near others fishing. Had a halfwit put his pots in where me and a couple of others were prawning a skinny creek two weeks ago. We had a nice drift going in about a 15ft wide stretch of creek and bloke dumps his pots in. Blokes like that deserve their pots pulled.

    Cheers Scott.

Not illegal in QLD, however there are many area's you cannot cast them .
    Cannot comment on other states.

The places i fish are magnets for cast netters a lot of the time and about 80 percent of them are good about keeping their distance if you are already fishing there. Also tho when im fishing the flats i get a lot of fools who will walk up and throw cast nets like less than 4 feet from my lure when ive clearly been fishing there for atleast an hour before they turned up.....needless to say it shits me at times.

    Hi Nufin.
I am a Hervey Bay broe, the netting closure - hervey bay sketch turns out ok
goes from pt vernon to scarness jetty to urangan pier to leeds at urangan boat
harbour. This area is abundance of bait fish and the fisho's on the urangan pier
do well using bait jigs to catch live bait.

Within reason I will cast near other fishermen... If there is somewhere nearby that no-one is fishing for me to cast into I will go there. 15-20m is my limit. However sometimes there is no other choice but to cast where they are fishing. I always ask before I do though.

Sometimes I will encourage someone casting nearby me to cast within 5m of me because there was bait there for over an hour. I wasnt fishing for keeps and I knew there was still a while to go until prime time fishing time. They usually offer me a few after being so nice to them too.

its stupidity to cast net near someone fishing, i wouldnt cast within throwing range of anyone because it does scare fish away and they are there trying to catch fish not look like their doing it. if you were fishing and giving it a half decent crack would you throw your own net where you wanted to fish?? i certainly wouldnt due to the fact that i dont want annouce to those swimming below that im hear by throwing a wad of net and sinkers in!
i wont fish anywhere near someone with a net nor will i bring a net out where someone is fishing or about to fish, its common sense and curtesy.
ive had people cast nets on my line before hence why i hate people who do it, but im sure they wont do it again after ive given them some constructive critisism.

I'm with Ben - it's a matter of common sense & good manners - two things it seems a lot of folk don't have much of these days.

I was fishing in a small creek up the coast recently & had about half a dozen boats go by without any hint of slowing down. We were in plain sight and the fellas even gave a wave as they almost drove over the top of our lines. Not to mention the erosion their wake was causing.
