    shortening a transducer cable

    G'day fallas,

I have a Lowrance X52 that im replacing soon and want to fit it to a kayak. I want to change the transducer from the std rear mount to a thru hull type so it can be permanantly mounted.
Is there a problem with shortening the excess cable to the transducer as in will it give incorrect readings?

I will only need about 60cm of cable max and a roll of 4m of cable will be a problem I think.

I know you can buy extension cables that do not alter the readings.

    Jack.

Depending on the type of cable( coax or other ), im sure someone could do this ( if not your self ) !!!

I know Furuno sells a purpose built junction box to allow transducer cables to be shortened. Perhaps Lowrance have one as well.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

jack i asked this same question a short time back and all was good,,, it can be done,,,, but there's grey cloud around warranty claims,,,,

in the end i didn't bother with it,,,, even though the 100 feet or so of cable is still a pain when washing under the floor panels,,

    Thanks fellas,

Gonna head down the shed tmora with some sidecutters then.

I'm not worried about warrantee claims as its out of warrantee period well and truly now.
