Just curious to know what other methods produce good results other than cast netting poddy mullet for live bait.

Depends on what State you are in but there is also the drag net option.Bait traps are also available-clear cannisters or mesh cages that you place berley inside that allow the fish in but not out which you place in shallow water.Check previous post on poddy mullet,you dont want to be taking small sea mullet.
If your real keen you can fish under a float with a small hook!

Uhmm, get a 2L Coke bottle, cut it in half and put line so when you pull the cage shuts and the fish are trapped. I used this one in England agers ago and caught Cod bait using this method.

Also you could fish under a float and a small hook with bread and maggots.
