    Brian,

I've been out a couple of times with Jamie Bietzel (google jamies daintree fishing).
Caught good fish with him everytime and he's open to what style of fishing you would prefer, ie fly, poppers for GT's,reef fishing, barra etc.He has two boats ,one a punt for the river or calmer days and another boat thats larger and ideal for heading out on to the reefs around Cape Kimberley.

He generally only takes a few people (in my books a good thing) and it would pay to call a couple of days in advance. A very friendly bloke who is prepare4d to listen to the client. As a bonus he grew up on the Daintree!
It's only about half an hour to fourty minutes north of Port.
I can't comment on any others in the area as I hook up with Jamie everytime(sorry about the pun).
If it was game fishing you were after, I can ring friends in Port and ask their opinion.
    Cheers

Iwas up there in august and went on The Norseman what a joke in reguards to fishing we left around 8-8:30 in the morning back by threeish they tried to convince us to use handlines we chose rods.5 of us outfished the rest of the boat (19and crew) 3 fold. great boat, food ,crew, good for tourists. Not if your serious about fishing.

    Thanks for the replies guys,

I was actually inquiring for my olds as they are going up there with a bunch of family for a wedding.

I am not sure how many will be looking to go but it will be probably at least 6-8?

Blue water fishing will be the goal I think.
I am aware of the potential for a lousy experience with charters (have had a few) that is why I was looking for a recommendation.

Nothing is guaranteed with fishing I know but I think there are other aspects to a good charter that need to be taken into consideration.

    Thanks again

Ammo, if its for an outing as you describe, I would go with Norseman.
The family will have a guaranteed good trip, not too long out on the wet bit, and no doubt bring home a fish or two.
I agree with bigboss above. The old boat they had was better for real fishing, the new boat has some of the comforts that should please your folks.
