So we have 1000kg of boat once safety gear & eskies go on plus fuel plus pax with 21 deg deadrise & a max HP of 175. And some clown is telling you that a 115
is ideal & the rig will run to 80 km. These people are total wankers. Find another dealer or a different boat at another dealer. Do not walk..................................RUN.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Regards,
    Peter

Thumbs down Re: Darren Mc. 600SF Classic Reef Raider

have owned a southwind 580 with 140 suzuki on it and thought that needed more. the guys selling these boats at springwood bought the moulds and set out to produce them as cheaply as possible. While i agree the price is attractive and the 115 etec a gutsy little motor 50% of what they told you is bull and the other half pure s--t as i sais i owned one produced by southwind not a bad boat but these reef raiders arnt half the boat from what ive seen .My advice look at reputable brands from reputable dealers.

Darren, I agree with the guys above.
I have a cruisecraft 5.3 m, hull weighs 620kg (fair bit lighter than the 600SF) with a 115 Johnno 4 stroke on the back spinning a 14 X 19 alloy prop which reachs 6000 revs comfortably and there is no way I can get to 80 kph. It will do 70 kph flat stick, and also it will not plane within a boat length. I have had this setup for 3 years and find it not under powered or overpowered.
A 115 is too small for that sized boat it will have to work way to hard.
If they insist go for a ride and test it first hand but don't forget to load it up (mates, eskies, fuel, fishing gear, you name it) and test it in conditions you will be using it in.
Hope you get peice of mind.

    Cheers

Wouldn't even consider it as nothing they have told you is going to happen even in the best conditions. If you're going outside in it make sure you test it in those conditions but personally wouldn't test it. Gaven

All is good now, going with the 150 e-tec. I think that combo will be fine. Will report on how it goes. Thanks to everybody for their valued advice and opinions.
