Yes Murf both houses booked and 18 bodies to fill it. Could get very interesting if the weather is crap and we all sit around drinking and dribbling

The comp is coming fast and I'm feeling the excitment building although it would be better if I had a boat that was finished and not just painted last weekend Ah plenty of time to finish the boat and the trailer which is only a frame at the moment.

Looking forward to seeing all you blokes again and meeting new ones as well.

    Bring on the weather.

    Cheers,
    Greg

Well 2 weeks to go now and I leave Perth for Brisbane.
Home for a couple of days, then off to Fraser.
    Can't wait.

I will contact you, Shane, as the time gets closer, as when I am leaving to go up there. May end up being the same day as you and Mitch.

When are you going up Murf????

Looking forward to having a fantastic time, with the great company, just like last year, maybe better.
    May even win a prize.
Not 3 off a major prize like last year!!
Lets hope the weather gods are good to us all.

    See you all up there.

    Graham.

Re: 25th Fraser Island Expo 2008 - Whos Going??

The latest conditions report (22 April) states Indian Head bypass and Waddy track are "soft and boggy"

Is that wet boggy or dry boggy? Does not look good for any rain before we go in a couple of weeks. We have three boats - fortunately all relatively small/light at around 5.5m. We also have three recovery vehicles.

I hear the rocks at Poyungan and Happy Valley are also impassable even at low tide so the bypasses have to be used.

Has anyone any info on the launching gutters at Waddy? They were pretty good last year.

Lets hope the weather turns it on for us.

This report from AF member, age, yesterday.

    Hi all

Have just returned from a week at Orchid Beach and thought I would give you a pre Fishing Comp conditions report. I know conditions can change rapidly, but thought this a good opportunity especially for those towing big boats.

Hook Point to Indian - Vegetation collapsed into water about 2km from barge - only passable about 1.5 hours from bottom of tide. Beach to Indian from here excellent, wide and flat.

Indian crossing - Small rise on southern side with softish sand was catching a few out. Not much beach to get a run up. "down" track probably flatter and better formed than "up" track. Hire troopies and buses carve it up by days end. Coming home yesterday 2 hire troopies stuck on both tracks - had to weave in between them, but sand had a bottom. EPA/comp organisers may groom this with chip bark etc before comp.

Indian to Middle - Tight pinch with 3 hours either side of tide. Middle blow a little carved up and soft near the slats. Watch for tourists on Indian and Middle as they wander aimlessly 6 abreast on the tracks and do not hear vehicles approaching at speed.

Middle to Orchid - Good, a little lumpy in places and a little soft about 400m from Middle blow - keep momentum up. On the down track a little soft about 1km from Champagne Pools - Keep it moving and you should be ok as it has a bottom, although my 100 series dragged its belly here.

2 big boats got through both blows and track on Thursday with tandem tows.

Orchid - Warning - Southern Orchid township-to-beach access closed from erosion and wood slats damaged - we had to use northern track or Waddy back road. Talk that wood slats being torn up and this track being made one way down only. No work as of yesterday though. If travelling down/up northern access, tight pinch in front of old resort with fallen vegetation - most of tide all ok though.

Waddy gutter - best I have seen it in many years with one long single defined gutter- great and easy launch and retrieve. Waddy beach is really wide at the moment.

Any further questions, just ask or PM me

    Have a great comp.

    Cheers a.

Hi all, This will be my 14th year at the Fraser Fishing Expo, Camped first 6 years, now my family and I stay at the Waddy Lodge main house which is located behind the Ranger Station at Waddy point and the driveway entrance is near the bins on the beach - north of the Waddy beach camp gound. The boat park that other posts refer too often extends directly infront of our house. If members wish to leave the boats at the northern end of the park we will have direct vision of your boats after daylight hours and we are happy to keep a watchfull eye on your rigs. Smithy did this last year with his mate Scotty's boat. We will be fishing in "Bri-Ann" a small 4.7mt tiny with a 60hp yammy, if any 1st timers want some gps marks for mixed reefies, and the common spots out to 8 miles, give me a call. Kevin Ph 0408 848 564. We will be going over on Sat the 17th until Sat 31st May. If you see any of our team there, "Bri-Ann" stop us and introduce yourself, when number 200 comes out for the Toyota Hilux you'll know me then!!

Not long to go now blokes, just awaiting my quote for an ext drawbar... hopefully an extra 2.5m should be long enough (for my small boat anyway).

This awesome weather atm is making me nervous.. hope we get some of it in 3 weeks time eh...
