Thumbs up Re: 25th Fraser Island Expo 2008 - Whos Going??

Yes, Jas, I'll sticky it as I may still be in the running to hit the comp.

Don't forget my info to you and now others, that you can leave your boat and goodies at Waddy Point in the " Boat Park " and it will be safe.

I believe team Riptide will make another go ??

I have some GPS marks for some XOS reds if you want, just need you to send me next weeks Lotto numbers and I'll gladly swap ....

Re: 25th Fraser Island Expo 2008 - Whos Going??

Mate not going this year due to changing the number of catch and weigh categories being reduced for beach fishing.
If the weather is crap then very little boating is done and you have to resort to beaching fishing and catch & release weigh in is only done on the northside of Waddy point and it is difficult to get from main beach to waddy without giving the fish a hiding in a bait tank if you have one.

Guys, we will be there again and cant wait. Will be towing a 6.5m plate alloy up with a Prado and another Prado for the tough times. Will be camping in the vicinity of Ocean lake, depending on how many spots are left as to how close. Will be going up on the Tuesday afternoon low tide before the comp. Have had excellent weather for the last 3 years so lets hope I have not just jinxed it. There seems to be a fair few Ausfishers get up there and a good time is had by all. I am sure the sizes of some of the fish will blow all but the serious fisho's minds, there are some HUGE fish come in. Might catch some of you guys up there.

Marty, mate the bait grounds are just outside the gutter, you will soon see where they are by the number of boats chasing them. The North Gardener banks are about 15km at around 60 degrees. Sound around in this general area until you find something worth fishing. There is an awful lot of areas to fish up there from only a few k's out on the gravel to depending how much fuel you take up, a looooooong way south. I think the boatpark that Phil is referring to is the parking lot that lines the full length of the beach in front of the Waddy campground. All the gear seems to be safe here although I do still lock everything up. Some people leave all their rods in holders and electronics hooked up ready for the next day. You will have a greaaat time, do you have an extended draw bar because it certainly helps with the launch and retrieve???

Yes Lee, exactly. We just park our boat next to any others there , leave all gear on board and head back to camp at Ocean Lake.

Extended draw bar of 3mtrs is perfect.

Re: 25th Fraser Island Expo 2008 - Whos Going??

yes fellas I had a 2m draw bar made for the comp. I hope its long enough. Although I m hoping to launch and retrieve right up the gutter in the shallows rather than in the slightly open area in the start. Looking forward to it have been excited for a few monthds now. Hoping to head up on the Wednesday I think judging from the Tides it will be an afternoon arrival.

Re: 25th Fraser Island Expo 2008 - Whos Going??

Well Marty, a 2mtr bar can be OK. This all depends on the ability and experience of the drivers of both the vehicle and vessel.

There are options for launch and retrieve off the beach, but the main factor in being successful is " speed ".

I know I may get pooh poohed, but I never ' winch ' while retrieving a boat off the beach, always drive on. Seriously, by the time the trailer wheels hit the water until the vehicle driver is going forward is no more than 15 seconds. OK, 20 at the outside.

Retrieval of a 6mtr boat will take at least 3 people, while 4 is great.

Launching of the boat is a similar time frame, maybe even less.

    Hey Guys,

Can't make it, but wish I could. Please post lots of pics and info for me.

Out of interest, where is Ocean Lake? I normally just camp on the beach at Waddy.

    Link for info.
