I agree, what type of fishing?

As the question stands my answer would be "All of the above"

    Re: Best reel

I picked spinning as it easier to use from beginner to pro but i do prefer a baitcaster for my Bassing needs..

    Re: Best reel

most of my fishing is with a spinner, i like leaving a bait out with an overhead on the boat, barra i use a baitcaster, flicking SPs i ues a little spinner, have never tried fly fishing, looks good thou

Like Tony M said ..... Its a case of horses for courses!

If it comes down to preference ..... Mine has to be the baitcaster!
There is great satisfaction in using one ( overcoming the dreaded backlash, birds nest , bunch of grapes)
I dont know why ..... but it seems to be more fun hooking a fish on BC gear!
When you are casting well ... They are so accurate ( casting to estuary snags for barra / jacks ..... I just love it!

    They also look cool
Pick up a quality baitcaster ...... & they just feel like they are a fishing tool!

I know I've owned more baitcasters than any other type of reel!

As tony says , all of the above, many bear to differ but if im out on the reef i have an old alvey 925c had it for years, its streight to the bottom, huuuge 1 to 1 racio, smooth drag , easy to service, out fished many an overhead and landed some top quality snapper,Wouldnt go outside without it..,impoundments , curado 3000 ,luv it ,cast it all day, lock it up , jacks in creeks curado 3000 luv it , cast it all day, lock it up..spin gear, a few different prob stradic for bass..but 1 more curado with light gear is an option (but the handbrake says no more f#%*n exp reels)..got an okuma on the raider snapper rod goes good with placcys on the reef ..deano

    Personally, horses for courses.
    Inshore from the boat, overheads.
    Surf, rock and estuary, spinners.
Used Alveys exclusively when I was younger, probably the most versatile of the lot!
    Cheers.

    Re: Best reel

    The mighty Alvey rises again

Each reel has its own niche. Threadlines are great for SP and light HB work. They are also the most suitable for light to medium high speed spin roles

Baitcasters domionate where accuracy or control are an issue as well as the heavyweight stuff

Overheads dominate for distance casting, and the majority of offshore work.

    As for fly reels

I would probably pick a baitcaster for the species you have nominated

    Re: Best reel

For Bass I use spin for placcys, and baitcast for heavier type lures.. eg. jackalls (lipless crankbaits) and spinnerbaits..
    cheers barra
