I thought I would report on a trip a few Saturdays back and my first posting here on Ausfish;
Well it started with an interesting 4.30am departure from Moolooabah spit..
To my amazment we watched a fly bridge cruiser nearly roll by getting "hammered"by breaking sets across the front of the rock walls on our way out of the sheltered spit..![]()
This guy just strolled out casually and got smashed side on! I think the guys in the fly bridge could have touched the water at one stage... Obviously they just didn't expect it or see it coming.. They managed to square up for the next wave and then decided to get out of there..!
Anyway I watched the sets and applied some throttle to clear the breakers before making our way to the first stop which was the inner gneering for a bit of a sound and drop with nothing but peckers around before making for one of our better spots @ Murphys..
By the time I got there it was 8am and there where a few boats there already.. We burlied up and droped out bashing gear into about 40 meters..
As soon as we hit the bottom we where on... Snapper, Moses Perch, Yellow Tail Kings keep us busy for ages...
We even hooked and released a few undersized red emp's which was a first time I have ever caught these fish..
When where not landing fish we watched the other boats hook up including a few impressive large yellow tail king heads thanks to a few sharks in the area..![]()
We only took 7 good sized fish but that was enough to feed me and my family for a while.. Was a top day out with big bust offs and a good mixed bag, I was home by 1pm..![]()
