I'm going up north for some inshore reef fishing through a charter and was hoping to get away with using my Daiwa Emcast Plus 5500. I was testing the drag pressure to see if it was gonna be able to do the job so I turned it up a decent ammount without overdoing it. It was at this time I noticed that the more I turned up the drag, the harder it was to physically turn the handle to reel in line. By the time I got the drag at a pressure I thought was gonna be o.k it was pretty tough to turn the handle.
I've never had this with other threadlines before. I wash, clean, and lube all my reels after use in the salt so I don't think it's an internal thing. Perhaps I need a new drag washer?? If so does anyone know where I could get the parts I need?
mate how long have u had the reel? i've never seen a problem like that, if it's been less than five years you've still got the warranty, on another note what kind of fishing do u use it for and how do u find it?
Unfortunately I bought it new from Eb@y for $100 AU so I don't think it is under warrenty. That was about 2/3 yrs ago. I mainly use it for spinning off the rocks at Moreton Island and live baiting in the bay, but originally bought it to cover a few bases ... To date it has been a great reel. Theres more info at
Heard through the grapevine, that you have not caught that many fish with the Emcast off the rocks on Moreton- but you have a mate that has caught way more!!!! Ha Ha
