fraser island help

hey guys am heading up to fraser in end of june for a week with a few mates fishing. was just wondering if anyone has stayed up the cape during this time and has caught anything and if the fishing is any good. also what fish are to be caught at that time of year and whats the rock fishing like. any help would be great. cheers steve

howz it going big steve . Ive fished frasers east coast afair bit from Sandy Cape to Hook Point and by far the best experiences of fishing I've had are at Hook Point. There are some awsome deep gutters along there and we've caught alot of good fish ie;big whiting, tarwine, jew,big tailor,heaps of sharks(don't go swimming there)makeral in summer and alot of steam trains heading to NZ. But its not like this all the time, its alot of work and patience. I always burly up the beach for about 100m around me (it is the key I think). I tend to find night fishing works best along with live bait for the biggens and worms for the smaller fish. Hope this helps!

Also if your intent on going all the way up to Sandy Cape on the way up Ngalla rocks and Browns rocks can also produce good fish jew, tailor and after a big blow or big swell some reefies come in for a feed! Moses perch, spangled and grassy sweetlip cobia and occasionally good size squire, But be prepared by having a good casting outfit with 30lb braid should do the trick.Also you will lose a far bit of gear on the rocks.In one afternoon at Ngalla we landed 7grassys and a yella between 1 and 2.5kg and got smashed a hell of a lot.(that was after some pretty crappy weather).If it looks fishy give it a go especially if no one is fishing it.

North Ngkala and Browns are causing probs for vehicles - Rangers have been using the western beach to get to the lighthouse - even Orb (Ranger) who has been stationed at the lighthouse forever backed out of crossing Browns last week at low tide and to get to Waddy went the whole way round the top and across the Platypus Bay 'walking' track to Orchid. I would expect things to improve fairly quickly though as more vehicles get through and recreate the tracks at Ngkala and Browns . Til the next low blows up anyway.

Queenies and gts at the cape this time of year and gts at Browns. As big boss says, reefies come in to Browns from the close inshore reefs and there is good holes at Browns now for that to happen.

Yes. Browns, Ngkala, Connors, Poyungan and Yidney all looking good.

Chiefsimo Im having trouble sending you apersonal response to your question on beach burleying.So here goes, I fish the in coming tide using a mix of tuna oil and big johns burley mix or any other pellet burley in a bucket, let it sit in the bucket for a few hours then throw it all along the beach to the high tide mark and 50m eighter side of where your gonna fish(sort of like chucking fertiliser). I also have a burley bucket staked in the water in front of me ankle deep water and keep moving it up as the tide comes in. In that bucket I put old fish frames and or mashed pillies,so as the tide comes up there is a constant smell of tuna,burley and pillies. I always fish an area for at least 3hours. this way of burleying keeps the birds guessing. but it definately works on fish.
