    Cleaning colour screens

Has anyone got some good advice for cleaning colour sounder screens. I have a 10" Lowrance and it is difficult to clean the smudges off when it gets wet (not that often). I wouldn't like to clean it with something that damages the screen. My old Navman was the same.

    Re: Cleaning colour screens

My better half found some sunglasses cleaner called i-Series. In comes in little sachets with a wet towelette (Isopropanol alcohol) similar to a KFC towelette. They are also great for cleaning computer screens (LCD).

They come in a packet of 18 sachets for about $5. We get our from OPSM, but most sunglass stores or optometrists should stock them.

    Re: Cleaning colour screens

My old Navman's screen looks quite crappy from not taking too much notice of salt etc when it was on the tinny, but the new Raymarine was a much bigger investment, so this time I decided to follow the instructions. Just wipe over VERY GENTLY with a soft, moist cloth to clean the salt residue off , then polish with a soft microfibre cloth. They are the kind of thing that comes with lots of glasses, sunnies etc. They recommend that you dont use chemicals to clean the screen.
So far no damage with this method.

    Re: Cleaning colour screens

Thanks for the replies. I have been cleaning it as recommended and used the cleaning cloth from my wifes laptop, I will look into the wipes though. I was out off Port Stephens a couple of weeks ago in some not so kind seas and got some water through the zips on the clears onto the screen, it took some time to get it clean again. I was out again last weekend in some ordinary seas so this time I covered the front of the unit with a clear shower cap I stole from my wife, it was a perfect fit for a 10 inch unit. It was easier to clean than the screen, I didn't leave it on all the time, just when puching into the rough stuff. You can still see through it and operate the buttons etc.

    thanks again

outsider1. that stuff is good, but it costs you a fortune.. your best of getting some luke warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth and go over the screen.

some lens cleaners aren't good for certain plastics and i tell my customers to avoid them as much as possible unless you know the lenses can take it..... i sell sunglasses for a living.

luke warm soapy water and you can't go wrong

    Re: Cleaning colour screens

    Thanks Local_Guy,

the wife buys them for her Sunnies, so they are always on hand. I use them every couple of months to remove stubborn marks off my Computer (LCD) screen. I agree you would not want to be using them all the time.

Thanks also to Blackened, had not thought about Plexus! I have some so will give it a try next time.

I have a microfibre cloth as well that I keep with the Head units for my GPS and Sounders, and give them a quick wipe when I install then and pack them away. It came with my last Lowrance purchase I think. I also keep the screen cover that Lowrance supplied on when it is not in use.

I have one of those metal camera cases that I keep the head units in to help keep them clean and dry, and easy to store and carry.

    Cheers

    Re: Cleaning colour screens

Hi guys, my old boy had this stuff from a company called lazer. It's a lcd cleaner and works great. It seems to leave a protectant on the screen so if ya out and get a bit of water or fish guts on it just wipe it off and still clear to see.

It comes in a pack for about $10 with cloth & brush.
