Am I missing something here..
The storey's about broken handles on spinning reels while fighting a fish..
I have always thought the only time a handle and the internal gearing of the reel is working hard is when you might be fishing deep with a heavy weight on the end of the line and you want to retrieve/wind it up eg replace bait..
Now when hooked up to a fish winding it in is the pump rod technique.
While lifting rod up and then lowering it you quickly wind handle that shouldn’t put as much stress on the handle as pulling up a large sinker be it deep sea, jetty or surf fishing.
Are these people using the reel like a boat winch trying to pull up there catch..
I have never broken a handle over 40 years of fishing in all sorts of situations..
Tell me about it..
