    G'day guys

A few of us headed to Awoonga last week from Melbourne (first time up there, and first time ever fishing for Barra). When we arrived the lake was chocolate brown, our first thought was that the fishing will be hard, we couldn't have been more wrong.

We got 6 Barra over a metre, 104,106,107,107.5,113,117cm.

All up we ended up with 12 fish on board our boat. All were released except one at 78cm (hooked in the gills). Catching them and a photo is enough for us.

I had one fish (estimated at huge) that took 300metres of 50lb braid and a Predatek Viper in one run!

    Awesome place

    Good on ya Chris,
Long way to go for a fish eh! Just hope they stay on the bite for a while longer so i can get into some barra action.

    Sorry 300yds I meant, a big difference!

Thank guys. Makes it a little easier flying home when ya do alright on the fish!

I couldn't believe it when the fish took off, I locked the drag and we all watched the reel screaming, rod keeled over. Couldn't turn her. We were all speechless after it took all my line. (Rod: Shimano Raider Impoundment Barra 6-10kg, Reel: Penn Jack Erskine Signature baitcaster).

Chris, what's 75 ft between fishos.

Jas, we've been trying to keep the lid on the Awoongie Behometh in case word got out.

Good report by the way, Chris. I'm glad you got amongst them. Don't worry about the braid, someone's prop is sure to pick it up.

    Cheers,
    Steve.

Took the wife and kids down to the dam today to see after all the rain we have had and it sure looks good !
My family and I are so lucky to have this on our doorstep !
Never fished for a barra in my life and never have caught one either. Point me to the reef instead !

Great session was had by the sounds of it. How did you fit 300 yards of 50 on a Jack Erskine Signature, about 150 of 30 normally fills them up?
