Kauri Creek
Today's effort
I drove for 8 hours and enjoyed the day very much on a creek I'd never seen before.
I just pulled up near the first red marker out the creek mouth and fished a few hours over the tide change waiting for the southerly to come.
Didn't catch anything I want to talk about other than an undersized Blue Swimmer (male). I was losing baits left right and centre - I must becoming a leper of something - didn't feel a bite at all but bait was disappearing before it hit the bottom.
Thanks

Re: Kauri Creek
Hi Robert,
Sounds like the dreaded happy moments were pinching your bait! They are very good at stealing bait without you noticing. If you ever catch one they make a great bait for Cod but watch the spines, they can give you an extremely painfull sting.
Just sent you a big Pm - last one I attempted couldn't go through as your inbox was full!
You're not a leper mate, we all have donut trips, it's all a part of the joy that is fishing! Chin up, I'm sure you'll have better luck next time.
Cheers
Tony

Re: Kauri Creek
Mate you might not find a better stretch of water than Kauri creek. Its blowing a gale here on the sunny coast at the moment but I bet its like a mill pond on the water at log camp. I love the place.

Re: Kauri Creek
Hey mate I have had some success fishing the mangroves on the left hand side as you come into Kauri. Just pump some yabbies (if you have a pump) and keep your rig lightly weighted, just enough to get it out there. Fish the incoming tide right in close to the 'groves. We have caught good whiting and bream there. Was the water still dirty? Hope this helps Good Luck!

Re: Kauri Creek
Karri creek was a good fishing hole once but the Great Sandy Straits Marine park map has made it hard. Upstream from the logging camp is all green zone. Check your maps and you will find the entire creek is off the plane area. To me, this takes too long to get anywhere in such a vast system. Add to that, the green zone is where I caught most of my crabs. Therefore, to me it is not worth it.

Chappy
