Over nighter at Mud

Lobbo and i left Manly boat ramp thursday at 4.30pm and slowly made my way up to mud island.It was blowing northerly at about 15knots and was very choppy.we got out there and relised the sounder had shit itself so we anchored up the northern end. It was very quite but we managed to get 2 squire, 2 corallys, and 2 tailor. We also caught a few massive catfish around 90cm . One of the cattys got smashed on the way up by something huge, only leaving the head. Fished friday till about 9.30 then we headed home, still beats working. Can you eat the catfish someone was telling me you can???

Yes, I think bunter put it very nicely. U could eat a dirty sock, but would u want 2.

no i would never eat one of slimery buggers. The guy i was talking to said they eat them all the time.

catties are alright if you're hungry. i've eaten worse anyway just skin em and cook them up

Glad I said no to going out with you guys for an allnighter. Although, I didn't think it at the time.

yeah it wasnt hard to convince lob to have a day off. considering the weathers going to be crap this weekend

Nothing wrong with catties as long as you skin 'em. They're often sold as "mixed reef fish" Grants states they are good eating.

They're easy to fillet as well, but you don't get much off 'em due to the armour plate.

Didn't know cat fish grew that big, & have not ever caught them around mud.

I've done many a trip over to Mud from Manly and know how slow the trip can be headed into a Northerly. It's not uncommon to fish all night and come home with zip. There's some big Noahs out there let me tell you, having seen a hammerhead and big bully on the same day when the water was particularly clear. As for catties, you've only had to be spiked once in your lifetime to know, I don't care how good or bad they taste, they simply are not coming into my boat!!
