I have no idea where you have the unit mounted or how, I used to use handhelds a fair few years back for work and learn't fast that the Lowrance units at the time had lots of trouble keeping track of the sats, I thought it was usual until I changed brands to a garmin, like magic the garmin units just worked where all of the lowrance's kept falling over.

So anyway your problem is not acceptable if yours is correctly mounted (on average). I would be fast to send it back or return it if possible, citing the excuse it should work the way it is designed which it doesn't.

Wonder if there is in manufacture 10cent saving somewhere inside to do with the aerial that can make all the difference.

My Garmin 12 even works under the car seat, caught my wife visiting a fast food drive thru and not bringing any back home!

    just rambling.

    cheers fnq

we Just Got The Cp 300
And Just Hooked It Up And Had The Antenna Sitting On Top
Of The Roof Of The Car Under Power Lines And It Work Perfect.
    12 T0 13 Sats
But The Old 126 Garmen Wont Even Pick Up A Sat In The Same Area Till We Get Near The Boat Ramp..
So It Might Be The Position Its In .
    Cheers

    LOL..Scott that's a real pisser.
    Didn't even bring you home a lousy cheeseburger,eh .

Wayne,I would return the unit and get them to repair or replace it.There's obviously some problem.

The Vertex units are extremely well built, however that doesnt discount that there may be an issue. I agree with the above, return it and see if a problem can be found. If not, start looking around the units environment for causes.
Eliminate the prime suspect first, ie the gps itself.
