Finding Sand Crabs in the Moreton Bay

I'm new at this sand-crabbing in the Bay and have been dropping my pots off on the sandbank middle of drop-offs (3-4m) and finding I'm only pulling in juveniles. The pro-crabbers seem to drop theirs anywhere (or it seems) in much deeper water.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Deep water around the bay islands seems to work for me around the 30-35foot mark, also on the edges of any deep channels where there is a good current.

i agree, i the ntrn bay i crab around 15mts on the edges of banks.
definatly the better quality rather than crabbin shallow. ya just need to set prospecting post in several locations. then crab the area thats producing

do you place your pot on the top edge of the drop off at 15 metres or the bottom edge of a drop off?

bottom mate, it gets a little more current and more activity.
the bank may rise up to say 10 mts, i crab around the lowest points.

I generally head out from Caboolture River in a line towards Bulwer and when i hit 8m of water start a run from there. Generally its a mixed bag between muddies and sandies but mostly sandies. Unfortunately with the weather the last 4 months i havent had a chance when the winds have been down to get back out there in my vee punt.

Last winter during the westerlies i went for a walk out on Redcliffe Jetty and with the water being so clear i could see everything on the bottom. Around every fish frame there was a few big sandies obviously too full to keep eating so next winter i am going to set a few dillies along that area while out snappering.
