When sounding around, you will get a general bottom, when the sounder gives a rise, you are travelling close to or over a difference in bottom structure. A fairly sharp rise in structure could mean that you are over a bommie, (or driving up a sand bar! )
Certain fish will congregate in this structure/bommie.

Bommies(bomboras) are referred to alot when fishing the tropics. They are often shallow reef or rocky outcrops where fish hang out.It is a popular practice to drag surface poppers and other lures over these bommies and away from them in the hope of catching reef fish,GTs and pelagics.
