    Awoonga Barra 8-11th Feb

    G'day all,
Made my first voyage to awoonga to try and pop my barra cherry. Before leaving I loaded up on about $300.00 of all the big name lures and a few cheapies to throw in the mix. Fished very hard trolling over great shows of bait and fish, alternating lures regularly. It wasn't until i tied on a mojiko in qantas colour recommended by my good mate Tristan at anaconda that i got stuck into some fish. The one you see below was caught within seconds of tying this lure on. It was hooked in 25ft of water just off a weedy point. Once landed the lure went straight back out and hooked another considerably larger fish within minutes. It made short work of my 20lb braid and 60lb leader. Didn't hook another fish after losing that lure .

I didn't meet an angler down there who hadn't caught a barra that weekend with some blokes tallying 20+ fish for a couple of days. An awesome fishery that i can't recommend highly enough- i'll be back!

    Good work & congratulations novice23.

How big was your first barra? Looks about 90cm in the pic.
