    Boat maximum hp

    Hey guys and girls,
i recently purchased my boat and it only came with a small, weak 2hp outboard.
the boat only had one sticker on it which it says pongrass yabby but i am unsure what the maximum hp is. If anyone would have any information it would be great as i want to purchase.
    cheers

    hey mate

wot length is it? i got a 12 foot clark tinny and had the transom welded up and the welder guaranteed it to a 25hp motor so i put a 15 on it and it goes like stink

    dunno if this helps

    good luck with it

I think beam width is also an important determining factor?

your tinnie doesnt look that old surley it would have a compliance plate on it , it would say it on there what the max hp is, should be on the sides of one of the seats

searched the boat hands down no plates anywhere. I just gave her a cut and polish this is why maybe she looks not so old. The beam on the beat is 1.35m beam and 3.5m long

    Re: Boat maximum hp

i would probably go a 15hp or 10hp if its just you and a mate in the boat. because anything more than a 15hp would go too fast. my boat i think is actually dangerous with just me in it because its so light in the front end, when i get on the plane the wind catches the bow and wants to pull it one way or the other (and thats just on flat water)

im not an expert thats just what i would do might be better to wait and see wot a more experienced ausfish member says

They were originally rated to a whopping 6HP when that was measured at the flywheel.
Other specs are LOA - 3.35 Metres Beam - 1.24 Metres Weight - 56 Kg

Just a few legal details - If you put a 4hp motor on your boat it will still plane with one person on board, as well, you will not have to pay any registration fees nor have a boat licence.

If you put a 6 hp motor on your boat you will have to register it but not have to hold a boat licence.
