Got a few scary prices... $620 odd for the controller kit and $330 for installation.
Does anyone know anywhere cheaper???

Hey Hamish
Not sure exactly how much for the unit , sound's a little pricey , but give Col a call at Fisher Boat's for a price Then do a DIY install. It's real easy! I did mine.

Hamish, the controller kit is usually a bit over $400, and mates rates is under $400. Installation isnt that hard, $330 to install is way to much ...
Hamish, when I got my boat I rang ALKO for a price and they said much the same thing, around $600. He then said if you ask the boat place to buy it for you, which was John Crawford Marine, it will be $395. So guess what I did?

guys, Ive ordered a boat that will have the sensa kit so I will get it with the trailer but one question I have simply out of interest....is the in car kit simply a contoller for brake application? i.e will the trailer brakes work without the controller simply wired up with std 7 pin plug and the controller enhances ajustment?? question being what happens if the in car controller fails, are the brakes locked on or off hence unusable?
thanks
Craig
if the controller fails the brakes lock on. You then release the brake pressure by pressing a red button on the brake actuater, and then disconnect the controller in the car and you can tow the trailer, be it without any brakes.
The sensabrake system uses a 12 pin plug which controls the brakes and does the lights, the 7 pin plug isnt used.
If you keep a small phillips screw driver handy, simply take the trailer plug appart (top cover as it goes into the car) and undo the screw holding the lrge red wire in the plug.. remove it from its screw hole and tuck it away from the other wires. Then simply put plug back together and release air from unit (as Hamish mentioned) then you can drive as per normal with Lights. The red wire is the power supply to the compressor unit. Got this peice of info from the QLD service agent for sensa brakes.
Also after you wash your trailer you should activate the brakes several times (fot on brake with car on) to remove the water from the callipers and also a liberal coating of either lanolin or inox on the caliper is a big help. he also mentioned that spraying the trailer and car plugs with lanolin every so moften was very ahndy as well.
By the way.. the brakes rely heavily on the brake pedal pad..... and they cost $185.00 rrp to replace.... had to get one when I changed from a manual car to an Auto![]()
