    mixed bag on the tweed.

went out today with a mate to flick some plastics along the rocks walls.
we saw about 2 other people out the whole day and the water was glassed off!
such an awsome day. with the overcast conditions it kept the fish on the chew.
i was using 3 bulkey hawgs and atomic prongs while a mate was using sqidgie critters.
with only 3 casts on the hawg i felt a slight tap in the line and after i struck it came up to a very solid weight before it spat the hook. i was fishing for BIG bream so i had a 8lb leader on. the leader was shredded after only 2-3seconds. probebly a big flathead.
next cast greg caught a small bream around 27cm while i caught a fish at 32cm.
the tide slowed down and we had to work the lures alot slower.
i felt a good hit and after trying to keep it away fom its rocky home on a locked drag a nice cod a bit over a kilo hit the deck( best fight ive ever had from a cod this size) the tide has just started to run in and we picked up our other rods. i used a luckey craft popper while greg used a megabass dog x juniour.
first cast i was smashed and we called it for a trevally the way it hit but it turned out to be another bream at 30cm.
we caught another 10 or so fish on surface that were doing backflips and impressive strikes of the surface.
the water got extemely clear with over 20ft visabitlity! we tried alot of lure but the fish just sat midwater and were very spooky.
we went down to 2 and 3lb and used bassday kangoku shads which just suspend perfectly.
they smashed the bream an we say the just smash the lures on the pause.
i cast along a little reef just looking at the action of my lure when i saw a good flathead come of the bottem and completly inhaled the $20 jap lure!
then it just spat it... after giving it another twich it swollowed it again and took of(at this point i forgot about the 3lb flurocabon.
after fighting it with the drag completly backed of a 59cm flattie made it way into the net. a few happy snaps and she was released.
for the last bit on the morning we fish the oyster leases and we both got busted by MONSTER fish!!
the water was still very high so we had a few casts along the most productive sand flat in tweed and caught another 5-6 bream in a short drift and greg caught a 50cm flattie.
so i didnt get the big bream i wanted but was a awsome day with $hit loat of fish.
the average fish we got was 28cm fork lenght but didnt get a pic onf the 32cm fish as we though we would have got way better.
also saw a a boat chained to a pole with very interenting rego numbers

A great day out no dought about it. Some good fish caught and some smooooth water there. I have finally gone to a brim gear with only 4 pound fireline and leader and found the leader stays on better than it did when i tied it to my 10 pound line. I pulled in a 38cm sweety in the bay at night and it was more fun than i thought. Usually not going under 8 pound i found the knot strenght better. Cheers boyz good mixed bag.

    cheers,
breambuster- not hard to find fish in tweed, cant say were i fished but go to the rock walls in the terranora arm of tweed and yuo will be fine. best fished early.
ddobson- 38cm is a great fish was that fork lenght or to tip? we usually fish between 4 and 6lb but will go up or down depending on conditions.
you can usually get away with heavier leader in the bay

Im suprised to hear the visibility is that good at tweed. Its still very dirty in the nerang, and even worse in the coomera. Theres plenty over 30cm in the nerang if you want a change of venue. They must be following the dirty water?

Its always good to hear your reports. Theres a real art to targeting bream on lures so consistantly. Its something I could never get the hang of. I did one comp and came up empty handed. All we could get was a jack, lol. True story.

    cheers
