Yes lads, here follows a truly heartwarming story of a man and his bassday sugardeep minnow, stuck in rocky terrain, and the cod that tried to tear them apart....
Now for the real report . Nuggs and I fished a few areas around kawana looking for bream or cod. First spot proved fairly unproductive, with just one moses perch. Tide was definitely too low for the areas we could get a decent cast in. Moved to Nugg's favourite cod bank and after being ignored by a few disinterested bream at the first jetty we moved along and started targetting cod. Nugg had his little bassday and I was using a squidgy proworm on a weedless hook to avoid getting snagged. The hardbody definitely outperformed my plastic, with Nugg landing probably four or five fish to each of mine. Sizes varied, with the biggest probably going 30cm and the smallest the little 10cm fellas.
Despite a lack of size, it was great fun, especially when a smaller fella took nugg straight under a rock and wouldn't budge. In an act of pure desperation and frustration at having lost so many expensive lures, in Nugg went to fetch his bassday. After 15 minutes of concerted effort with rod, line and even a piece of timber from a local site out came the bassday with cod still attached! Top effort mate. We also saw another fella hook a small moses perch, which got nailed by a big cod as he skull dragged it across the top of the water to unhook it! Was the first trip out with the new rod and reel combo for me, so another first for the day. Some pics below, including nugg's little dip.
