    "Not without my bassday"

Yes lads, here follows a truly heartwarming story of a man and his bassday sugardeep minnow, stuck in rocky terrain, and the cod that tried to tear them apart....

Now for the real report . Nuggs and I fished a few areas around kawana looking for bream or cod. First spot proved fairly unproductive, with just one moses perch. Tide was definitely too low for the areas we could get a decent cast in. Moved to Nugg's favourite cod bank and after being ignored by a few disinterested bream at the first jetty we moved along and started targetting cod. Nugg had his little bassday and I was using a squidgy proworm on a weedless hook to avoid getting snagged. The hardbody definitely outperformed my plastic, with Nugg landing probably four or five fish to each of mine. Sizes varied, with the biggest probably going 30cm and the smallest the little 10cm fellas.

Despite a lack of size, it was great fun, especially when a smaller fella took nugg straight under a rock and wouldn't budge. In an act of pure desperation and frustration at having lost so many expensive lures, in Nugg went to fetch his bassday. After 15 minutes of concerted effort with rod, line and even a piece of timber from a local site out came the bassday with cod still attached! Top effort mate. We also saw another fella hook a small moses perch, which got nailed by a big cod as he skull dragged it across the top of the water to unhook it! Was the first trip out with the new rod and reel combo for me, so another first for the day. Some pics below, including nugg's little dip.

Funny very funny. I have thought of doing that but then i remember what slips around the bay at night. I was even thinking of putting a goggle in the boat to get the buggers of that brick me and are worth diving to get cause they are so damb big. Lucky he didnt get his foot caught in between the rocks lol.

    very funny stuff Nuggo,
I wonder how quick you would have made a decision if you finger found the hook while you head was underwater ?

i had that in the back of my mind the hole time i was under water, but i was not going to let that cod steal a nother $20 off me. using jap lures is just like a pokey machine, you no you are going to loose a lot of money but some times you do win so ya just keep doing it

What a belter of a story, and pics to boot, bet you wished you had your yak then eh Nugg ?

Oh well, it was probably a hot day anyways.. but yeah, with the toothy grey gentlemen around I would probably have just hoped and prayed the cod eventually came back out !!

    Thanks for the laugh
