    Crusoe Island - Pin

    Hello to all,

Have been thinking of doing a weekend camping trip to Crusoe Island - while fishing around there there seems to be some ok spots near the beach/bay at the northern end - looking across to North straddie.

Would this be the best spot or are there better spots - also am I right is assuming that the sandflies would be pretty bad there?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    Cheers

    Hi mate,

You would be right, for thinking the mosquitos are bad. They are "SAVAGE".

My mate and I camp down their probably 4-5 times a year for 3 days at a time, and I have caught quite a few bream from the bank their, especially in winter.

Have a good weekend, hope you get a few.

Camped 5 nights over Easter long weekend one of the last spots at the end of Crusoe take some firewood not much around. Mozzies were bad but with a fire going and some rid on they seemed to piss of. Great spot had a ball kids loved it would go again for sure. Got a 70cm flattie some bream, whiting, moses pearch, sweetlip, tarwine, sting ray, sand crab all cought from beach only small but kids loved it. Tip of South Straddie there is a fantastic yabbie bank every pump 4-6 mutant yabbies.

That tent actually belongs to the Jacobs Well Fishing Club. They do set up for a long time - usually in Autumn till near the end of winter - but when they leave you will not find even a scrap of paper left as litter.

Crusoe is good camping in the winter with only the occasional day bringing hordes of sand flies. Summer is another story. Spiders are yet another story. I don't like them at all and the ones on Crusoe give me the willies. Winter is bad enough but summer is a nightmare with huntsman spiders leaping all over the place. Never again. From now on I 'camp' on the water as God intended. Man, mangroves and she oak trees do not mix well.

Hey stopstealingcrabpots where is this yabbie ground you are talking about? Is it inside that lagoon that shallows out at low tide at the pin mouth? Do you know of any others? I normally fish the shallow reefs but dont catch much fish at the pin except the over at the bedrooms.
