    River Sunday Morning

Had a quick fish on the river this morning with John (VIC1). Trolled some hardbodies and flicked some plastics, it was a pretty quiet morning but John did end up with this....

I assume they are but I'm no expert, I have even caught a little 2inch one in a cast net so they must be happily breeding in the river.

You'd think with a big tail like that it would fight hard wouldn't you.......this one just laid on it's back waiting for the net

    Give me a LT anytime..........

Nice one John! Good to see you're still getting a fish in! Did you use 8lb line for this one? Sounds like it would've been a much shorter fight time than the last fish we fought.... he he he

Nice salmon. We had a go for a salmon on Sat morning (first time trying this) but failed. The 50cm jack we got later on sure made up for it though!!

Water looks flat much smoother than i have seen for a long while. Nice fish. They must be everywere out near the mouth. Good to see someone else catch more then the captain. Always the way. Good fish. PS Been getting out to hit the big snapps lately. Theres been good size snapps, sweetlip and tuskies i have heard around the islands.

Nice fish fella's! What did you get him on?

B/F: Chris, did you get your Sounder back? They're replacing mine with a brand new DS600X... Bonus huh!

DDOBSON, Dave heard the same but the quality is only being nailed by the 'seasoned fisho's' on a regular basis - been tough for the rest...

SimonT: 50cm Jack from the river is a really good fish, i have only seen and caught little tiddlers.

ddobson: I haven't put any time into the snaps of late my sounder was away getting repaired for a couple of weeks, Weather hasn't helped either even this week seems a right off . Topped with the fact pelagics almost seem non existent in the bay I have had a pretty poor run of late. I will no doubt put some effort in around mud over the next few weeks however.

T1: Sounder has been back a little while now however this was the first time i had it out, Works a treat, no fogging now even in direct sunlight. Though I would have preferred if they had given me a ds600x .

Interesting that these fish only come from the river, Never seen one captured out around the bay islands,,,, go figure! Is this a southern population phenomenon?
Can anyone tell me their favoured habitat further north

Could be the mud that attracts 'em rando. They (all the species, Burnett etc) favour estuarine muddy, murky areas, the threadfins being utilised to "feel" for prey. It is a misconception that because they are mainly tropical, they would prefer clean open water...........the opposite is the case.

The only one I have caught was off baxters Jetty at Shorncliffe......it wasn't a bad size but was terribly thin and wasted for some reason, (internal parasite?) and so it was returned.
