Red face Fishing good boating bad!

Well headed out from the Townsville coastgaurd ramp at about 230am and got out to cape cleveland about 315 didnt bother going to the rocks or salamander just droped on a bommie underneath the lighthouse big run but droped the bait down and boom i was on the 30pnd braid was singing and so was i as i boated a fingermark in the 80cm range few smaller fingers then the sun was up. I headed out to fourfoot and salamander lots of bait down deep but no more fish.
I trolled from salamder in and around 20footthen dropped the last of the squid along a few bommies under the cliffs for a few flag and small grassies just size.
I had a bit of a clean up and headed for home, Just as i rounded the cape i was thrown to the other side of the tinny and crap went every where. Luckily i manage to knock it out of gear on the way across which probably saved me from capsizing. Once i came back to my senses i work out the stearing cable had snaped, i pulled the stearing rods apart and made a makeshift tiller and putted home21/2 hrs later i made it back to the ramp. the bloody cable has been running smooth and easy i i always keep it greased. Anyway i am glad nobody was with me it may have turned out alot worse.

Well done on the feed wade, sounded like a good day on the water, except for the steering cable. Lucky the weather was good or things could have been a lot worse.

Must be nearly time for a few more beers at the Riverside. How does tomorrow arvo sound?

Rod, how did you go on the water today? hope there was some good fish and no mishaps on the water.

My boats nearly done, tested out the radio today and decided to get a new one.....it works, but only intermittently so best to get a new one i think. I will get the last bits and pieces tomorrow and Monday and al should be good to go, with no more issues.

Wade and Scott, see a post from myself regarding today.

It was a great day out. Glad you caught a feed Wade. Bad luck with the steering mate. It just wouldn't be fishing without some sort of mishap.

Geez Wade, glad to hear it turned out alright for you. Would have been a rude shock that's for sure!

Nice work on the fish too.

Geez Wade, that must've been fun coming home across the shallows of Cleveland Bay with dodgy steering! It can really chop up in there. At least the fish played the game. Seems every time I go anywhere near that bommie theres usually 2 or 3 boats already on it. Obviously the 'mark are still there I'll have to hit it in the dark (can't stand the heat).
Any way the kiddie fishing went great too (4pm-6pm). We didn't end up using the boat just some light line fishing off the edge of the boat ramp for 3 genuine elbow slappers and a bream. The first whiting hit the prawn so hard and ran for the deep so I immediately called it for a small barra. Then when it came in I was disapointed and called it for a cattie until it spun around and there was a 39cm whiting on the end (was quite dark on top but fat as!). As would be, there are no photos but the wife, son, self and cat are all very full. Dinner was lovely thank you mrs nonibbles!
Interestingly, all boaties that came back while we were there said they had very little success at all.
    Enjoy that fingery won't ya!

Read a story in a fishing mag few weeks ago. The editor was driving a tiller steer up in the gulf with 3 mates. Went over a wave and his seat broke, caused him to fall in the tiller, turn the boat hard lock at full speed and capsized the boat.

They spent all night and part of the next day floating around in the gulf before they got rescued.

Goes to show you anything can go wrong.
