That old fella is not far off the mark, though I dont know about 15 boats hooked up at one time, there were multiple hook ups at any given time for an hour or so late last Sunday
He tells a good yarn though. Also Meet the bloke who bleeds the barra and ties rope through the gills and drags them behind boat too bleed them out. Says he has a freezer full and will eat fish breakfast lunch and tea for the next month if he has too. alot of people seem to keep the barra, more then i realised . Hopefully the majority is first timers claiming there prize and maybe less trigger happy next time they fish monduran, rating the fight of the barra higher then it"s table quality

It truly is criminal how there are still neanderthalls around who either don't know or don't care about in posession limits

How lucky for him that the law doesn't apply in his case - I hope he chokes on it

Tony, what do you mean by the law not applying to him, I thought dam barra still had an in posession limit??
I can almost accept the ones that take a fish to eat, allmost, its the knuckleheads with no pretense of good handling technique that drives me up the wall.

I dont know how many times you see people land a barra, hold them up by the jaw, stuff around and you think they must be going to keep that one as it's been out too long and then they let her go. I saw one boat on the weekend just spear the 90cm odd fish back in to the drink, they had had it out for ages.

I found the water a bit dirty up in B, but not too bad. Not much bait activity either which was a bit of a worry. Foxie and I went up tues and thurs nites for 1 dropped fish and a couple of cattjes. Heard of plenty caught around the moonrise.

We are very much out of form ATM. I have landed 3 fish for the year I think. Dropped about 5, It is really beginning to frustrate us to the point of laughing!!! I sat and soaked up Foxies Air-con in his shop on Saturday and listened to all the blokes with there catch stories, We could only just shaking our heads in dismay Oh well, the worm will turn.......it better or the boat will be sold.....I might take up golf.

Brian, You would need the four hour trip just to let you arms recover due to the amount of barra you have caught this season!! great to see.

I ventured to the filleting table today listening and watching blokes hack up their catches. Didn't enjoy it one bit. Egos and chests expand dramatically when you get a couple of meat killers around a filleting table there was a nice 50cm bass being filleted too. one less for the ABT.

    cheers steve

Welcome to the club ethan!! its a big one too!!!

Next trip you will turn the tables on the boys.

The only advantage I have is being close enough to keep going back, and back and back until I crack the pattern again!! I am blaming the rain.

Sorry Brian - I was being sarcastic - it definately does apply to him, perhaps I should have worded it that he obviously feels the law doesn't apply to him.

Yes there definately is an in posession limit for impoundment Barramundi. On the East Coast it's 5 (1 during closed season for some dams) - 58 min 120 max

It kills me to see people mis-handle large fish too, it's not like it hasn't been spoken about a great deal on TV, forums, and some good publications from the dpi and others.

    Cheers

Sweet mate, I knew it was there, I just wasnt following the context of your post very well.
I think it was BlackSheep that nailed it on the head in another thread, the mob know enuf to use the right lures and gear, fish the right spots, but seems to be a hole in their knowledge re handleing fish???
Can some one educate me as to what a person would do with 5 X 90 to 100 cm barra????????????

Steve B, outfished by my barra virgin brother last weekend, 4 fish to 2, on his first time ever fishing the sweetwater.
Mind you, we were trolling , so I keep telling him it doesnt count.

    Re: Turn It Up.!

Just having had my first trip up last weekend, I too was staggered at the amount of fish that are kept!!!!
Every time we went to the shop the filleting table was occupied, also saw a lot of fish necked boatside!!!

We were thinking, 80 odd boats fishing there on saturday, some boats caught 2,3,4 or more fish, some got none.
The amount of fish getting caught each day would be incredible!!!!

It'd be fascinating to know the approximate number of fish in the dam!
Hypothetical I know, but there must be a bloody lot!

    Re: Turn It Up.!

hey jeff, good point on how many fish are kept each day ,what impact this will have to us addicts catching even bigger fish in the future is probably unknown but you would think it would have to hurt the fishery to some extent . it makes you wonder if the fillet and release brigade have any intentions of comming back in the future,.when they get home look at there dead fish photos & cook up there fillets then say ,hey that tastes like carp, (might as well have kept the catfish)mabe they wont come back,or when and if they do, they realise what we have been talking about and give them a kiss and send them back ..if you want a good feed of good fish go to the reef next time and leave the impoundment fish where you found them for everyone else to enjoy over again, reef fish breed , impoundments dont, deano.
