Seamartin Surf Reel Mrk II ..... ????

One of the guys from work gave me this reel saying that after sitting around the garage for a long time his missus told him it had to go. It's never been used and looks pretty robust.

Just wondering if there any good I'll probably throw it on a surf rod and see how it goes Any info on these ?

I would keep it in the box, in time or already it may be worth something to someone

I had one of those..if i recall they are made here at port adelaide. You can still buy them new.they are a heavy reel but its got guts.if you tie a brick to the end of the line and throw it in of a jetty you would have no trouble winding it back up to yourself.very gutsy and holds heaps of line.i used it for shark fishing..

    I like your thinking Captain

It's an old reel in mint condition that I won't use

I'll stash it in the back of the cupboard for a few years

    Excellent score there Black_Rat.
I'd do a search on the good old auction site and save the search so you can track what they are selling for. I do that if I am after any old gear, like the old bakelite Alveys. When the price is around what you want or demand is up, list it and you might be surprised. There are sometimes a few collectors on there too selling their wares who word their details so people understand they also buy vintage tackle.

You might be waiting for a while. As recently as last year MO were still selling them (maybe still do) for around the $130 mark from memory. I pretty sure you can still buy them new if you hunt around.

From memory they promote that their unique cross-wrapped line lay system allows for longer, smoother casts, but people I have spoken to who have used them, said the line would often bite in on itself and they cast very poorly. Have never used one myself, so that info is secondhand, be interested to know how you found yours for casting spears?
