    peel today 22-feb

i barely ever write threads as i prefer to read them so bare with me here.

finally after almost 2 months of crap weather i finally got a opportunity to hit my beloved snapper/squire spots around peel.

i was at the ramp by 4 and then finaly made it to my mark at about 430.

things started instantly.first cast i boated at 38cm squire which was released. about 2mins later i was absolutely dusted by a large snapper..easily 70cm+.to give you an idea i was using a t curve rod with a daiwa advantage 2500 with 15pound PE and a lot of drag..probably too much drag to tell the truth..but peeled 50m within 5-10seconds.i'll get you next time mr snapper.

over the next hour i managed to get another 3 squire at the same 38cm length along with a lot of bream and smaller squire.

i then proceeded to another spot and scored another 3 squire.2 were dead on 35cm and the other one was 44cm which was the only one i kept for the day.

the fishing shut down badly at about 9.i tried my way back to the ramp to be bitten off 3 times in deep water.felt like mackeral runs too..so everybody i think they have hit the bay finally.

oh and i also got 7 or so really nice moses perch(30cm+).i didnt realise they were actually a good table fish until a guy told me they were superb eating.damn!!nxt time i might keep one for a taste test.

sounds like a pretty hot session mate, I fished there last night with similar results, there is plenty of crap still floating around!
I am heading that way in the morning, fingers crossed I go toe to teo with your lost 70cm+.
What plastics were doing the damage?

You lucky b*stard for being able to get out! When I looked at the water (at Redland Bay) on my way to work this morning, it was like glass. I mumbled and grumbled to the missus. I just bought a boat and haven't had a chance to take her out yet. Would've been nice. A pity you lost the nice snapper, mate.

How do you like the Diawa 2500 reel, by the way?

yeah mate the 2500 is a goer..i didnt liek it at first but now i rate it...same reel as the sol except for on CRBB/bearings (others will argue that there is difference but look at the daiwa catalogue and you'll see)

    Good report Cobia

I don't know why you don't post more often???

I really want to hear from someone what speedsters are swimming around Peel, as my Daughter and I got hammered last weekend too. Also on 15KG string. I might have to get back there again soon with some anchor rope and try get one of these fish responsible?

But you sound like you had a top day!

    hi all,

dont want to dampen the hi expectations but there is lots of sharks around west side of peel at the moment (and rest of inner bay)and the smaller one give a good run....but we can live in hope. try for good whiting on banks north side of rouse as you enter from west enterance.

    SNAFU.
