Well done tiny.
Gidday all,
Headed out early this morning, on the water about 4:30AM. It was a beautiful morning, a very light westerly blowing early and even the antics of dumb and dumber who launched before me and blocked the ramp couldn't take the gloss of things.
My crab dillies got mangled by muddies a couple of weeks ago and I haven't replaced the nets yet, so I dropped four pots baited with chicken wings in front of the leads and headed down to a favourite spot along the reef a bit to the south.
A couple of other boats with fancy bow-mounted electric motors arrived a few minutes later and proceeded to run rings around me - literally but not figuratively. They were using SPs, but I've given the plastics up for Lent. Actually I've given them up 'cos I can't catch diddly squat with the damn things.
Anyhow, I got a squire and a moses perch using pillies and prawn baits, while they got nothing and moved on trying to find a better spot. I stayed put, and got another bigger squire, a couple of undersized squire and a dozen or more moses perch. I kept a few of the bigger perch, but threw lots back. In the end I got a bit sick of catching them, so I pulled the anchor to check the pots.
First run I had 5 keeper sandies and a few undersized or females. I added a fresh wing to each pot and moved up to near Huybers. Things were a bit slow there, I only got a small venus tusk fish – beautiful to look at, but way too small to go in the esky. I rechecked the pots and added a couple more sandies to the esky.
Fishing along the reef had slowed down to nothing, and the wind had shifted a towards a northerly – time for all little tinnies to go home. I picked up the pots – one more legal sand crab – total 8 for the morning and headed back.
A good day's fishing, way better than going to work, and I was home before the sun got too hot. We do live in paradise!
What more could you ask for mate, a feed of sandies and a few fish and out on a beautiful morning . Good on ya,Cheers
