    Mud Island - 22/2/08

Headed out to Mud around 4:00am this morning to fish the run in tide and anchored up on the northern side. Three or four other boats were around but did not see any decent fish landed. Plenty of small squire around but none legal size. All were around 25-28cm. Conditions were excellent as far as weather.

Tried drifting along the western side of Mud but not even a nibble. Even though the esky remined empty it was good to get out and wet a line.

In my experience, Mud is a place to fish at night, not day light. Maybe next time try Curtin it might produce 4 U!

Hey fellas dont give up on mud during daylight , some big ones can be caught in the middle of the day.

          Cheers MM
I am a fisherman,it's not something I merely do,it is who I am! Fishing is not simply my escape,it is where I am supposed to be,it is not a place that I go, But a life long journey I am taking, it is a passage that was shown to me and that I will continue to show to others. When you understand all of this, you will then know me and we will fish together.

I disagee Didley, i have caught plenty of good fish at Mud during daylight hours, the snapper in my avatar came from Mud in the middle of the day. I know that the place fishes well at night, but don't write the place off as a daytime location.

Both Scalem's and My PB Snappers were caught at Mud during daylight hours. Have been blown away by unstoppables there as well during daylight. I really just think it is the luck of the draw as to how well it fishes both day or night. That's fishing for you. I guess that's what keeps us going back is the anticipation of what MIGHT end up in the boat.

I drifted around the east side of Mud a few times today also with a mate of mine. Drifted out wide, and through the car park (four boats) and in close to the shore.

I landed one sole and a very undersize squire, foul-hooked. My mate landed one very small catfish.

I had four crab-pots out in depths of 12 - 18 metres and the total catch in those pots was four very undersized crabs.

Comparing last year to this year have you noticed the lack of Jelly fish? Last year they seemed thick enough in places I could get out of the boat and walk home over what seemed a carpet of Jellies. During the peak time when everyone was catching snapper, the fish I caught spat jellies out of their Gobs. The rain has definitely changed things around for a while, maybe forcing the jellies to stay away too.

                        An astute observation.

                        Very true, I think.

forgot to mention that the fishing was the same at night and morning with no real peak.
