    crazy fly idears

i was thinking has any tryed puting a propeller on a fly. i was thinking of giving it a go but i keep thinking the prop will make the fly spin in the water so id have to add two props in a counter spin against each other to stop it spinning. have any of you guys tryed this, i no it will be a pig to cast but i could realy get some attention from some big bass or hungry barra. any idears on this guys.

    Nugg,

You may even find that the said experiment would be hard to control the spinning effect, If you use metal spin blades like on some bass/Barra lures it would be too heavy to be effective on the top water. Plastic ones might work but again the spining of the fly might be hard to control even with two. The other problem would be how to secure them in position to still allow them to spin around the hook shank.

Good luck though you really never now unless you give it a go.

The other option to get more bloop from a fly would be to add a soft plastic cup to the front of the fly, check these out - Marc Petitjean Magic Heads from Hareline Dubbin.inc

    Hey nuggo '
A mate of mine Pete Swanason is a very innovative fly tier on the sunshine Coast and about seven or so years ago found a matt of little plastic flowers from spotlight , he pulled them apart and made some awesome fizzers from it . We used to catch some excellent bream under the overhangs of the maroochy river , but while fishing 6lb on a five weight the occasional Jack or pike or snag seen a few of them disappear . I don't know if Pete has a stash of them still but I am pretty sure you can't get that matt of little plastic flowers anymore. A bit of a shame really as these were tied on #6 hooks , I don't reckon you could get that sort of finesse in conventional gear

I did put a prop in front of the fly between to plastic beads as you said it spun like hell, then I added wheighted eye like clouser style the spining stop, but during the cast you hear the prop spining in the air like toy planes, I caught fish with it but it was hard work.

Chris I don't know about the flower mat, I bought something simular from $2 shop, it looks like a plastic button with only one hole in the centre, I bought 2 sizes, the big size is smaller than 5cent peice.
