FURUNO FCV 585 with b260 trasducer or si-tex/koden 833c, The best?
FURUNO FCV 585 with b260 trasducer or si-tex/koden 833c, The best?
A nice problem to have deciding between those two!
Koden boys like their Kodens but it is old technology compared to the digital stuff Raymarine and Furuno are doing. How are they working out price wise for you? Would be good to see Koden and JRC etc. bring out a new range of of quality mid range stuff to compete with the 585 and 620 Furunos.
I am in the position of taking a huge leap from some very basic and old equipment to some of this new stuff you speak off.
X25 lawrence to a ?????
Apelco plotter GPS fishfinder to a ???????
I am soooo confused.
I would have to agree with Smithy, JRC owners love there units as do Koden ect, I am not as loyal, If something new on the market takes my eye, then i research it as much as possible then buy the best i can afford. I had trouble in deciding on either a 2kw transducer for my Garmin 3210 . or wait for the release of the new JRC ..I ended up buying a Furuno 585 with a 1 kw thru hull transducer after discussing this with Pete(Grand Marlin)
I cannot recommend The little furuno`s enough...When you can travel at 20 knots and ping 400+ Fathom on a 1 kw unit, then they speak for themselves...My cost was $2300 for the complete package from J&H in the states..

Got the 585 and must say its a great unit

IS THAT A ROD IN MY POCKET OR AM I JUST HAPPY TO BE FISHING
I've got the Koden 832. Great unit, though the daylight viewability is not real flash. Not sure if they fixed that on the 833. Personally, i'd be inclined to go with the Furuno. Not saying anything is wrong with the Kodens, but they are older technology. It is nice to have something a little different.
Old technology or not I do love my 833 Koden...but in saying that I've never used a Furuno
just got the 585 and i am loving it, but i havent used a Koden.
Regards Kozy
A mate is looking to buy a 585 ... atm ( 6M Sailfish)
Like Snelly , he wants the 1KW transducer .......... Now whats the advantage of through hull Vs Transom mount ?
Also ..... What would the local price be for a 1KW tranny ( through hull & transom) ?
Cheers
Nagg
Smithy seems to like his Transom mount 1kw...I had one on my last boat and found it bloody useless unless you were doing less than 3 knots, As for the thru hull, well they are capable of speeds up to 40 -50 knots, mine reads out in 400 + fathom doing 20 -30 knots without any problems.....there lies the difference..
I suppose the only draw back with a thru hull is you have to be very careful not to run or hit anything ....
Another option ...would be to use the new 1 kw thru hull with the tilted element, they can be parked on a trailer skid , ect and they only protrude 5 mm below the hull
