Dont immediatelly jump to the conclusion that its dodgy product. As you dont see if the reel had been dropped, stepped on or even left in a dodgy rocket launcher banging through rough sea for 4 days!! Its all a possibility! I have seen a brand new baitrunner break off at the leg on its first trip because it had been in a bullbar rod holder which had screwed the leg to the point that it broke as we were taking it out of the holder - and that was a brand new reel. So i reackon a reel, top end or not, could quite easily be structurally damaged if put in similar situations...
and i know a baitrunner isnt in the same league as a saltiga but you see what im saying...
I think Luk i mean Spear is trying to say is he prefers stellas!

Alcohol doesn't agree with me, but i sure do enjoy the argument!!!
I had exactly the same thing happen with a shimano thunnus 6500 on a gt but it also happened to rip the stripping guide and the next one along completly of a G.Loomis pelagic series rod NOT happy.
Dan.....
i think i read somewhere that the early models had a fault with the reel seat, and that was what happened

Dont forget that some anglers put WAY over the recommended line classes on their outfits, both rods and reels...then complain when they break.....just a consideration.

The problem with all spin reels is that fisherman place them in metal rod holders and the stem get damaged thus weakens them causing them to snap.
