    baitrunner upgrade (worth it?)

    Hi all,
I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the shimano upgrades.
I am going to upgrade my TLD 25 with a better handle and drag. I am also wanting to upgrade my 6500b with the composite drag washers and better handle.

What is the general opinion on these drag upgrades. Are they worth it?
BTW I don't have any dramas with what I have but an up coming trip may show up any weak points (hopefully big fish!!!) and I would like to give em the best chance possible.

    Regards
    Brian

Mate any drag upgrades are worth it as the originals are made of inferior grades of materials.

In regards to handles that is a personal preference but I enjoy the better handle as it make the reel fell more comfortable to me.

GPB dont keep us in suspense! where did you hear that from? I wonder how far away they are.. It is going to be a huge deal when they upgrade the baitrunner series.. hope they get it right!

    Jas,
just get one now, an upgrade means it will be more expensive, do the same job but look pouncier and you pay for the privilege.

    Re: baitrunner upgrade (worth it?)

    thanks for ya replies guys.

I wanted to get a spare spool for the baitrunner anyway so an upgrade of the drag washers and handle was not too much to add to the postage!

I am happy as with my baitrunner and it is only roughly 6 months old so I will not be paying extra for the new ones for a while. I think I would step up the model range before this

I ended up ordering the tld25 upgrade also which includes a better longer handle, wet drag upgrade, drilled lever quadrant and clicker. So this should make a couple of tough strong performing reels a little nicer again.

It is hard enough already trying not to buy more and more new 'fancy' gear I think this was a short term fix for my obsession. Might put me off buying a new reel for a month or two

    Hey Ammo,

don't know if you can post it on here due to word filters and such but I would be interested to know where you're buying from. I want to get an extra spool for my 6500 when I get it and like you say, if it's not too much extra it wouldn't hurt to get the drag upgraded as well.

    thx

[edit] lol aigutso.. great minds huh? [/edit]

Thumbs up Re: baitrunner upgrade (worth it?)

Aigutso, the Tyrnos handles fit the TLD20 + 25's, I upgraded mine when they 1st came out a few years ago, makes a hell of a difference

JB, got the info from Shimano, brand new model to come out after the tackle trade show [about August], I will chase up some info.

Yeah I got the info from the Australian shimano site www.shimanofish.com.au

I ordered direct thru the importer/distributer
I think you can also make inquiries by email from the shimano site.

    The phone no. is 02 9526 2144

Will try to post pics when I get the gear hopefully soon

    Re: baitrunner upgrade (worth it?)

I will let ya know the costs once they charge my card!!! I was a little disapointed today to see that they have not charged me yet (1.5 days after order)

I am sure the guy said they had it all in stock but we will see! I am so impatient waiting for new stuff to play with!

I remember that the costs seemed reasonable though.

If ya ring em they should be able to list off the prices for you too.

    Cheers

I think Heath did an article in Bush'n'Beach on this subject. If my memory serves me correct it was early 2007

I don't remember a 6500 handle upgrade, but he definitely did one on a TLD reasonably recently - late last year I reckon. Heath?

    Good luck,

    Re: baitrunner upgrade (worth it?)

    Was November I think.
Finally nailed a blue with the reel with the new handle on the week. Definately worth upgrading your TLD's handle thats for sure.

For your baitrunner go for the Stella 20000FA handle. Goes straight on & for that matter it will fit the TSS4 as well.
